Doing door to door evangelism online

E-mailing is one of the most powerful tools we have for sharing the good news about Jesus online. Probably 70% of the evangelism done by A Voice in the Wilderness is done through e-mail. Unlike chatrooms you have the opportunity to properly consider your responses while you have much more opportunity to interact with people than an evangelistic website. Opposite we have documented some of the advice we give to "evangelism team members" on how to start sharing their faith through
e-mail:

Making contacts

Making contact with people you can
e-mail is the initial hurdle. There are two distinct methods. Firstly if you have a personal or evangelistic site (as we encourage our team members to have) then you can visit your neighbors sites and e-mail them introducing yourself as a neighbor. You can invite them to visit your site and use their comments as a starting point for conversation. The second method is to visit a chatroom and get talking to people there. You can then exchange e-mail addresses and continue the conversation that way.

Keep accounts

If you are going to start speaking to a number of different people then it probably isn't a bad idea to keep some kind of records on who you are speaking to. You will soon discover that it is easy to mix people up or get confused about who is who when you don't have the benefit of face to face contact.

Ask questions

One of the best ways of building a friendship through e-mail is to ask lots of questions about the other persons life. People generally like to talk about themselves *grin* and so will feel that you are genuinely interested in their lives if you ask questions. You will often find people open up quite quickly if you take the time to discover more about their lives. However most of all it is a good method of keeping the conversation moving especially in the initial stages.
